Characters Gone Wild...

If you've been keeping up to date with me on Facebook, you'll know that chapter ten has been kicking my arse to no end. It's one of those chapters that marks the turning point of the story, it's the halfway mark, it's that point where you serious debate the career of a writer/author, it's where you would happily beat your own head into a wall, and gouge out your own eyes with a plastic spork, rather than sit and write this chapter...

Yeah, that point.

It's taken me nearly two weeks for this one chapter. My characters were fighting me, my Muse left me for some sunny island in the South Pacific, and then the bombshell.

Here I am, writing away, when I realize what my fingers were typing. Everything came to a screeching, crashing, explosive halt.

One of my antagonists didn't want to be antagonist anymore.

Sure enough, one of them has decided he didn't want to be the bad guy. He's gone on strike. He's gone rogue.

WHAT?!?

How the hell am I suppose to go back and edit in some clues to foreshadow this event? How am I suppose to go back in and rework some of the scenes where he had made an appearance and change it to the other bad guy so that he can look better in the eyes of the main characters?

You know, I think I would have had more understanding if all of my characters had decided to go on vacation with my Muse. No, not MY characters. They have to be difficult.

And you KNOW my Muse is sitting on a beach, sipping Mai Tai's and Pina Coladas, and laughing her arse off.

P.S. I did manage to finish chapter ten once the defibrillator got my heart going again. I'm in the middle of chapter eleven.

Goodness, that is a major change/struggle to deal with. I had a character once try to change things in my first nanowrimo attempt. Haven't finished the book, but when I do he doesn't get his way, not if the book is going to exist. My villain almost acted nice in my second mutant novel, and that threw me off at first but things turned out in the end.
