Small town dream...

When I was growing up, Bonney Lake was a small town. I could count on one hand how many minorities attended school when I went. I know I was teased and picked on for being "a chink" while growing up. it was definitely Hickville, USA.

Bonney Lake is now a small city. In the 1980's, when I was growing up, there was roughly 5,000 people. In 2010, we have roughly 17,000 people living here.

Despite my experiences, one of my dreams as an adult was to live in a small town. When I say small town, I'm talking no more than 2,000 people. Think Stars Hollow from "Gilmore Girls", Bon Temps in "True Blood, or Walnut Grove in "Little House on the Prairie" small.

I don't know if it's the romantic ideal of living in such a small town, or just the simplicity of the matter.

I used to dream about running away and hiding out in a small town. Every time I have problems in my life, in my personal relationships, I dream about running away to hide in a small town, with a new name.

It's become my haven.

Hawk's Point in "Moonlight and Magick" is a good example of what I mean. It's a small town, people pass through but rarely stay. Lillian could hide out there, start her life over. It was "safe" because everyone knew everyone else and if the Custodes Secreti agents came, word of it would be out. Outsiders were suspect, especially those asking too many questions.

In a world gone crazy, filled with violence, and in larger cities where you can't even trust your own neighbors, this small town ideal is very appealing.

I dislike large cities, other than occasional visits, catch the touristy stuff, then go home where it's quiet. Maybe I'm just a small town girl at heart.

So, tell me...are you big city or small town? Why?

=)
